Meteorite MILLBILLILLIE (Australia, 1960) - Eucrite -HED- 48.8 g
Magnificent specimen of the MILLBILLILLIE meteorite, which fell in Australia in 1960 and is classified as a Eucrite. This piece displays all the classic features of this famous fall, with striking and well-defined flow lines formed from molten material as it passed through the atmosphere. It also features orange-hued areas, reflecting the soil where it was found.
The MILLBILLILLIE meteorite is a historic Australian fall highly valued by collectors. Two local workers witnessed a fireball "emitting sparks" while working near Millbillillie and Jundee. The object fell on a plain to the north, but no search was conducted at the time. In 1970 and 1971, locals discovered two stones, and since then, a few more have been found by indigenous people. However, these are generally small and limited in number.
Millbillillie meteorites are known for their somewhat glassy dark crust, characteristic of eucrites, and a reddish-brown patina due to the earth where they fell and were later found. The supply of these meteorites is very limited, making this one of the last opportunities to acquire a piece from this historic fall.
Studies have shown that HED-type meteorites (Howardites, Eucrites, and Diogenites) originate from the asteroid Vesta, classifying them as differentiated rocky meteorites, or achondrites.
