An excellent opportunity to acquire this Nantan meteorite (China, 1516), one of the most renowned metallic meteorites worldwide. A must-have for any collection, this specimen is of museum quality, perfectly preserved, and stabilized to minimize oxidation.
The fall of the Nantan meteorite was observed in 1516, but the pieces we see today were recovered starting in 1958 when attempts were made to melt them down for use in China’s burgeoning industrial sector.
The meteorite exploded as it passed through the atmosphere, scattering fragments across an area 28 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide near Nantan, Guangxi, China.
Classified as IAB-MG in 2006, most Nantan fragments show significant weathering due to the long delay before recovery. This meteoric iron contains a 6.96% concentration of nickel.
A fantastic museum-quality specimen to add to your collection. Don’t miss this opportunity!
